Privacy policy
What we collect, why we collect it, and how to have it removed.
This is a working draft. It describes how the platform is built today and needs a legal review against GDPR and the data protection regimes of the markets we operate in before launch.
What we collect
- Reading analytics. We record which article was viewed, the path, the referrer and a coarse country. This is first party and cookieless: it carries no identifier and cannot be tied back to you.
- Account data. If you become a member we store your email address, your display name, the countries and topics you follow, and the articles you save.
- Newsletter. If you subscribe we store your email address, your chosen frequency and the timestamp of your confirmation.
- Google Analytics. Loaded only if you agree through the cookie banner. Decline and it is never loaded.
What we do not do
We do not sell personal data. We do not run advertising that profiles you across other sites. Advertising on this site is booked directly and served by us.
Your rights
You can ask for a copy of your data, ask us to correct it, or have your account deleted outright. Account deletion is a hard delete, not a flag. Write to hello@africaspoint.com.
Retention
Analytics rows are kept in aggregate. Account data is kept until you delete the account. Newsletter records are kept until you unsubscribe, plus the period we need to prove the opt-in.
