Editorial standards

How we report.  What we stand for.

Africaspoint is built on a simple belief: Africa’s story deserves to be told accurately, comprehensively, and with the same editorial rigour applied to any major global beat. These standards guide every editorial decision we make.

Our editorial principles

1. Accuracy first

Every summary we publish is based on a specific, verifiable source article. We do not invent, speculate, or extrapolate beyond what the original reporting supports. If we are uncertain, we say so or don’t publish.

2. Neutral & objective tone

We do not express opinions in our news summaries. We report what happened. We describe what was said. We do not editorialize, advocate, or take political positions. Our summaries are tools for intelligence, not persuasion.

3. Source credibility

We only aggregate from credible, legitimate news organizations. Sources are evaluated based on their journalistic standards, track record, editorial independence, and reputation. We do not aggregate from tabloids, unverified blogs, or ideologically extreme outlets.

4. Opportunity-driven focus

We deliberately prioritize stories about business, technology, innovation, infrastructure, culture, and development. This is not a bias — it is a deliberate editorial choice to correct the systematic over-representation of crisis narratives in international coverage of Africa. Africa’s challenges are real and we do not ignore them, but they are not the whole story. Our platform is built to tell the whole story.

5. Fair use & attribution

Most content on Africaspoint consists of original summaries of third-party articles, created under fair use principles. Every summary includes:

  • The name of the original publication
  • The date of the original article
  • A direct link to the original article

6. Sponsored content transparency

When content is sponsored, it is clearly and prominently labeled as “Sponsored Content” or “Sponsored Article.” Sponsored content must still meet our accuracy and relevance standards. We will not publish misleading, unverifiable, or irrelevant sponsored content under any circumstances.

7. AI transparency

We use AI tools to assist with content summarization. All AI-generated summaries are reviewed by our editorial team before publication. We identify AI-assisted content accordingly. We acknowledge that AI summarization may occasionally miss nuance readers are always encouraged to read the original source for full context.

8. Corrections policy

When we make an error, we correct it promptly and transparently. Corrections are noted on the relevant article. To report an error, contact editorial@africaspoint.com.

9. Conflicts of interest

Editorial decisions are made independently of commercial relationships. Advertisers and sponsors do not influence our news coverage. Our editorial team operates independently of our partnerships and revenue functions.

10. Diaspora inclusion

We are committed to covering not only developments on the African continent but also the achievements, stories, and experiences of African diaspora communities worldwide. Africa’s story spans borders.

What we don’t publish

  • Unverified rumours or unconfirmed reports
  • Content that is racially, ethnically, or culturally demeaning
  • Misinformation or disinformation
  • Content that primarily serves commercial interests without genuine news value
  • Crisis-only narratives that systematically ignore positive developments
  • Political propaganda or partisan content
